 Ship Island’s Honored Confederate Dead

About the Author

Gregory D. Bova is a retired Air Force Captain and currently an Instructor with the Department of Homeland Security. His interest in the Civil War began in the 1960’s during the war’s centennial celebration. Stationed at Keesler AFB, Mississippi he looked into the Gulf coast’s role during (what is considered there) the War of Northern Aggression and uncovered Ship Island’s pivotal role in shaping history beginning with French explorers seeking the Mississippi River’s outlet, through to the Civil War years and into the twentieth century, including the 1930 Confederate Veterans Reunion at Biloxi. The work also contains a biographical sketch of the 153 Confederate prisoners who died on the island.

Gregory lives in Tucson, Arizona with his wife Kristyn. They have three grown children.
